Sherburn Visiting Scheme provides a number of services for the elderly in Sherburn in Elmet and the surrounding areas. From medical transport and meals delivered directly to their door, to door to door shopping trips and planned days out, the Sherburn Visiting Scheme provides an essential service for local elderly residents. We aim to meet the needs of the elderly by alleviating loneliness and by providing services and recreational opportunities. We do this by promoting independence, lessening the feeling of insecurity associated with old age, stimulate and widen interests and draw the elderly into the life of the community.
The Sherburn Visiting Scheme operate a popular medical transport service which helps the local elderly residents get to their doctor, optician, chiropodist or hospital appointments.
Twice a week, on a Tuesday and Thursday, the Sherburn Visiting Scheme volunteers gather at the Eversley Park Centre in Sherburn in Elmet to cook a frozen Apetito meal for the local elderly residents.
Our weekly and monthly door to door shopping trips allow those not able to use public transport the opportunity to go out and do a bit of shopping in Castleford, Selby and Monks Cross.
Each month, a day trip is arranged to visit a place of interest. A thirty-three seater coach will pick up members from Grove House in South Milford, Lady Popplewell Centre in Sherburn in Elmet or the bus stop in the centre of the village of Sherburn in Elmet. For those who find it difficult to get to the pickup points, transport can be arranged. The bus normally leaves the village at 9:30 and leaves the venue to return home at approximately 16:00.
Throughout the year, we hold various fundraising events within the local area to help raise money for the Sherburn Visiting Scheme Charity.
