Last week the first Sherburn Community Volunteer Awards were held at the Swan pub in Sherburn. The awards were introduced to help recognise volunteers from many great organisations in Sherburn in Elmet, some of whom have been volunteering for over 50 years.
The Sherburn Visiting Scheme were overjoyed and very touched to have been put forward to win an award, Community Project of the Year. The category was extremely tough, with many other worthy competitors, despite not winning we were very honoured to be crowned runner-up. We were also presented with a Cheque for £300 to support their Dementia Cafe.
It was a brilliant night, one we loved being a part of.
The scheme is becoming under increasing pressure due to the increased number of people using the service and the retirement of some of our longstanding drivers. The need for new drivers is vital for the service to continue.
