Alleviating Loneliness by Providing Recreational Opportunities

Sherburn Visiting Scheme provides a number of recreational opportunities for the elderly in Sherburn in Elmet and the surrounding areas.  From the Memory Cafe and the Tuesday Afternoon Social, to weekly and monthly door to door shopping trips and planned days out, the Sherburn Visiting Scheme provides an essential service for local elderly residents.  We aim to meet the needs of the elderly by alleviating loneliness and by providing services and recreational opportunities. We do this by promoting independence, lessening the feeling of insecurity associated with old age, stimulate and widen interests and draw the elderly into the life of the community.

Memory Cafe

Every Monday, we gather at the Sherburn in Elmet Old Girls' School between 13:00 and 15:30. The Memory Cafe is a social afternoon where residents can sit and have a chat with a fun activity, or participate in a game of dominos whilst enjoying a hot drink.

Tuesday Afternoon Social

The Tuesday Afternoon Social is held every fortnight at the Lady Popplewell Centre. The social starts at 13:30 and finishes at 15:30. It is a great time to have a cup of tea, a biscuit and have a chat with friends.

Thursday Luncheon Club

The Luncheon Club is held every Thursday at the Methodist Church in Sherburn in Elmet. The Luncheon Club is open from 10:00 for tea and coffee and lunch is served at 12:00.
